I didn't find a single quote in this chapter that stood out, but there were a couple of things that I thought were interesting:
  • The duel was intensely personal and political at the same time. They represented very different views on most political issues, and Hamilton had no political or personal respect for Burr, even though he had been the Vice President of the US.
  • Both men's political careers were winding down. Although Hamilton and Burr may have had continued influence on politics, neither would likely assume important political office again. So it seems like they were either trying to save their political careers, or protecting their legacy.
